The League (Originally posted October 9, 2012)
Wow, it's been quiet around here. I
keep promising myself that I'm going to write more and... it doesn't
happen. But that doesn't mean the site has been quiet.
I went ahead and upgraded to
Squarespace 6. It is a lot cleaner than Squarespace 5. I'm also
finding it easier to use. Of course, the drop in monthly price
doesn't hurt either. I'd like to be able to add an e-commerce
section to this site. Got a ton of things to unload, but more on
that later. My favorite part of the new Squarespace is how easy the
new gallery is to use. Love the drag-and-drop and ability to
reorganize the photos on the fly. And I like how it scales the photo
to size of the screen. It's gotten me kinda excited to take photos
again. I've added a few recently. Looking to add more as I've made
a few more “prop” purchases.*
Going back to the things I want to
unload. Finally decided to cull my collections, all of them. Wife
and I spent all last week bagging and boarding my comic book
collection. Ended up bagging/boarding about 1,000 books. Now I have
to inventory my collection, a total of about 5,000 books. Gonna try
to thin it down to about 1,500 books that I really want to keep.
Everything is going. Also looking to unload a few boxes of Star Wars
figures, Hot Wheels, stamps and whatever else I might uncover along
the way. Seriously, who would've thought you could stash so much
stuff over 30 years of collecting.
Now, I know I've said the before but
this time I mean it. I really am going to try to be more active.
Now, I know what you're thinking, “Yeah Bro, we've heard this all
before. What makes this time any different?” I'll tell you what
make this time different. Let's face it, trying to come up with a
topic to talk about all the time is difficult, especially when you
have other things on your mind. Well, I found a way to beat this.
I'm joining the “League of Extraordinary Bloggers”. Found this
site while I was looking for ideas for my toy photography. Loved the
idea, loved some of the blogs that I read. Figured I could this.
Now, I might not be able to knock something out every week, but at
least once to twice a month might be feasible. So, this week's
assignment was “Write a “State of the Site” for your
web site. How’s it going? What exciting things have happened this
past year? Where do you want your site to be in a year’s
time?”
Since I'm probably going to get a few
new people to the site, let me give you a quick rundown on what's
happened this past year... Not a whole lot. Biggest reason for this
is that we (that would be the wife and I) bought a house about a year
ago. The house is in great condition, but it is still a lot of work
to make it our own. Good thing is I've got a room all to myself
which will become my Mancave. I plan to document it all on this
website.
What other things are there to look
forward to in the upcoming year? I'll still talk about baseball and
any other nonsense that comes to mind, but at least now I'll have
other stuff to talk about. I also plan on doing more toy
photography. I'm also hoping that with the new visitors to my site
I'll be able to get some feedback.
So, to review:
Site upgrading to Squarespace 6
Going to be unloading a chunk of my
collections
More blog updates due to the “League
of Extraordinary Bloggers”
Still going to talk about baseball and
movies
Did I miss anything?
