Shopping Spree!

Brian: It’s become somewhat of a regular feature here, which is great because I personally can’t think of a more fun activity than browsing auction catalogs filled with pop culture gems. This week’s assignment for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers

You won the lottery and bought Tony Stark’s mansion, but the rec room could use a little help in the redecorating department after all the renovations. Lucky for you, Hake’s Americana & Collectibles just announced their latest auction. Check out the catalog and go on a  fictional shopping spree to set up the ultimate cave of collectibles.

WooHoo! I just hit it big.  I've got the keys to the Stark Mansion and after some heavy remodeling (it did fall into the ocean, after all) , I am ready to furnish it.  I'll let wifey take care of the rest of the house, but the ManCave is all mine.  Apparently, I've also got an undetermined credit limit for Hake's latest auction.  Let's get busy.

Some ground rules.  1) I can't buy everything.  I've got a finite amount of space so I have to make it all count.  2) The items should be reflective of my hobbies.  Whew, now that that's settled, let's spend some money.

First up, we hit the Star Wars section.  Normally I would want to scoop up everything Star Wars, but I've learned that there is no way I am going to compete with Steve Sansweet.   However, there are some pieces that caught my eye:

I always thought this was one of the coolest figures of the vintage line.  Not sure why. Maybe the colors. Maybe because I always wanted to be a pilot.

I'd also get the Snowtrooper.  You can never have enough Troopers.  'Nuff said.

After Star Wars, my next passion is baseball.  And being Puerto Rican, my next purchase only makes sense.

Clemete's rookie card. This would go nice next to...

Brooklyn Dodgers World Series signed ball.  Yes, I am a Yankees fan. However, if the Dodgers ever decide to move back to Brooklyn....

Can't forget my love of cars.

mustang.jpg

The greatest pony car, the Ford Mustang.  I've owned 5 of them, but never one from the '60s.  One of these days.

Next up? Comic books!  I'm gonna splurge a little here.  I was into these guys way before they were mainstream.

If I'm going to have the X-Men, I should have the other super team as well.

And finally, the Coup de grâce... ok, maybe not the best term to use.  How about.. the Pièce de résistance, the Magnum Opus, the ultimate piece of Americana...

superman.jpg

A Kirk Alyn personally owned & worn Superman suit.   Can you imagine this bad boy on a mannequin in the corner of the room.  Dude, it would be awesome.  Heck, I might even wear from time to time to a local comic con.  Of course, I'd have to put up with a lot of people saying "Aren't you bit short to be Superman..."

Let's see what other members of the League would purchase.  Neato Coolville has made some interesting choices.  I love the Fay Wray signed piece that Achievements in Gaming found.  D.I. Treasures found and interesting item in the "Fossils and Minerals" section of the auction.
